Living in Atlanta, we are fortunate to be able to travel short distances for day trips and getaways. In three and a half hours we can be in historic Savannah. In just an hour and a half we can be in the North Georgia Mountains.
This weekend Jennifer and I took a day trip to Clayton, Georgia. Clayton is a cute, small town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. For us, Clayton offers a great escape…charming and historic downtown, unique shops, tasty restaurants and beautiful scenery.
Just outside the downtown area is our absolute favorite place to shop…Black Bear Creek Antiques. This antique shop has something for everyone in the family. Over the years Honey Bee and I have shopped here many times and we never leave empty handed. My husband has added many vintage and antique pieces to his fly fishing collection. I have acquired beautiful antique Mason jars, a hand painted antique wooden box, jewelry and kitchen items to name a few.
Jim Reaves is the owner of this wonderful store.
Jim opened his doors May, 2003 and is open Friday – Monday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm – other times by appointment. I am always very impressed with his wares each time I visit. His specialty is unique, rare and one-of-a-kind items. He also has a vast array of glassware, jewelry, fishing gear, sports gear, pottery, campaign memorabilia, children’s books and vintage toys and much more.
A lot of Jim’s items seem museum quality to me. He is very knowledgeable of all of his inventory and cares deeply for the integrity of these items. He cleans, buffs, waxes and cares for everything displayed in the store.
This was Jennifer’s first venture to Black Bear Creek Antiques. Needless to say, our visit didn’t disappoint. This is our bounty 🙂
Stay tuned…these skeleton keys will be used in an upcoming project 🙂
I promise your visit to Black Bear Creek Antiques won’t disappoint you either. Do yourself a favor and stop by.
