Create Vintage Door Knob Photo Holders using hangers! It’s as easy as 1,2,3!
I created vintage door knob photo holders to display antique family photos. Recently, I have been tracing my family’s genealogy. I have always had an interest in the past and the people that paved the way for the life that I have. Jenn gifted me a DNA kit from Ancestry.com and I received results within less than 2 weeks. Initially I did the DNA kit for answers regarding the lineage from my mother’s side of the family. For decades there has been very little known about her family history.
It’s all in a name
My mother’s maiden name was Johnson and her mother’s maiden name was Jones. Needless to say, these very common names made tracing history even more difficult. Since receiving my DNA results, I have already discovered that a family member was crucial to making Florida a state of the union. Also, we have proof that a family member arrived in America via The Mayflower! Yes, the actual Mayflower.
Keeper of the Photos
Both sides of my family have a plethora of vintage photos. The problem is, no one knows who most of the people are. My grandma Irma was the best at documenting names on the backside of photographs. My dad made me the official keeper of the family photos. I am doing my best to define and identify who these people are. Below is a great depiction of why I love these vintage photos. Their clothing, accessories and surroundings truly identify the era that they were taken.
Place of Honor
Being that the photographs have survived approximately 80-120 years, I really wanted to proudly display them. What better way to do this than with vintage door knobs? At least, that’s where my mind went LOL.
Here’s a tutorial for how to create vintage door knob photo holders.
- Vintage Door Knobs
- Dry Cleaning Pant Hangers - typically these have the double-wire hook
- Wire Cutters
- Wire Cutters
- Gather vintage door knobs.
- Using pliers, create opening for photos.
- Cut metal hangers as shown.
- Curve and close opening for photo holder.
- Insert wire into door knob center.
- Add photos.
If door knobs still have center hardware - don't worry. You can add the wire this way:
I loved the idea of grouping the photos together. Also, I plan to change and rotate the photos out to display others.
Hopefully I will figure out who these folks are through my genealogy search.
I’ve had so much fun with this new hobby (obsession) in the past couple of weeks. New family discoveries are just around the corner!
Plus, I had so much fun creating photo holders from something so unexpected! I hope that you are inspired in some small way today – whether you display photos or do a genealogy search!
