Patriotic American Flag Toothpick Wreath

The unofficial beginning of summer has arrived. Admittedly, this summer will look very different than summer’s of the past. Our vacation plans were cancelled, as well as a mountain cabin getaway. We are happy enough to stay home, knock some items off our to-do lists and make our spaces as inviting as possible. Recently we gave our entire front porch a complete renovation – details coming soon. With the 4th of July holiday upon us, I want to create a very pretty porch setting. Part of that setting begins at the front door. In years past I have used a lot of flags on our front door. This year I have created a patriotic American flag toothpick wreath!

Yes friends, you read that correctly – toothpicks! This wreath could not be any cheaper or easier to craft for your own front door! Plus, the total cost was a mere $3!!

The toothpicks and wreath form were purchased last year from Dollar Tree. I’m happy to report that they are currently stocked with both of these items at my local Dollar Tree. I personally haven’t ventured out to this store yet, but I called them to ask about this inventory.

Full disclosure – after completing this patriotic wreath, my laptop slipped off the sofa and onto the floor. Sadly, I cracked the interior LED screen. What once looked like beautiful and crisp photos was now blurry lines scrolling up and down the screen. So my laptop went to Apple, I begged Honey Bee to use his computer and I lost access to my editing program. All of this is to say, I hope these photographs look okay. And praying that I get my laptop back next week. 🤞🏻 Now, back to the tutorial.

Materials Needed

  • 10 or 12 inch foam wreath form
  • approximately 200 American flag toothpicks

Put it Together

  1. Gather materials
  2. Add toothpicks to wreath form, one at a time in a downward motion.
  3. Make sure the flags are all in the same direction. Every once in awhile turn a flag in the opposite direction.
  4. Add toothpicks all the way around the wreath form until full. Fill in where needed.

I worked on this wreath while watching an episode of Top Chef. It took less than one hour to complete, about 35 minutes.

Hang it on the front door and admire your handiwork!

After editing these photos, I can see where I need to fill-in a couple of areas with a few toothpicks. Not a problem as it will take just a couple of minutes.

In the near future I will share the front porch renovation and my patriotic front porch. What are your plans for the 4th of July this year?
