If you are in need of some inspiration for February 14th, we’ve got you covered. We are back today with our monthly DIY Housewives Series and our theme this month is 11 Valentine’s Day Ideas.

We love the idea of celebrating love. Do you know what we love even more? Creating gifts for our loved ones to show them how much we care.  Today’s post will showcase 11 Valentine’s Day ideas that you can easily make and create for your own family and friends.

Admittedly the commercialism of this holiday has lost its luster in our household. Expensive candle-lit dinners, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates and giant floral arrangements are all well intentioned fabulous treats…don’t get me wrong. We all deserve to be loved, pampered and respected by our loved ones. It’s just that we feel Valentine’s Day has gotten a bit out of control. In our area you need to make dinner reservations weeks in advance, and most restaurants have limited over priced menus for the holiday. Roses are twice the price that they usually are. People feel pressured to go all-out in the romantic department and it costs a fortune to do. Add the price of a babysitter to the mix and it is even more so.

We already go out quite a bit and feel spoiled and pampered from time to time, so we are very fortunate! When it comes to Cupid Day we prefer to avoid the crowds and do what we usually do – make, create and decorate.

With this DIY Housewives Series we revisit a blog post from the past. A few years ago we created these chocolate spoons for Valentines Day gifts. They are perfect for coffee drinkers or hot chocolate lovers!

You simply melt the chocolate wafers following the package directions, until the chocolate is fully melted and creamy.

Aren’t these wooden spoons adorable?  We found similar ones on Amazon for you. Affiliate links have been included for your convenience and won’t cost you any more money or fees. These polka dotted ones are cute. Also, the red striped spoons look good too. If you’re feeling extra crafty the best way to go is with the blank wooden spoons. You can do whatever you want to do with the handles!
After the chocolate melts, completely dip and coat the spoon with chocolate. Lay on waxed paper to dry.

We further embellished the spoon handles with some bling by adding little red hearts.
Add two or more spoons to pretty cellophane bags and tie them up with festive Valentine ribbons.

This is a quick, sweet, thoughtful and fun gift for a loved one, friend or co-worker.

Personally, I love using my chocolate spoon in a steaming cup of hot chocolate. It just makes it more rich and decadent!
