Here’s the flatware box that we spotted.

Flatware box makeover. The original finish of the box was very reddish.

Nothing super special, and probably not even very old. We knew the red finish needed to be covered up.

And this red velvet interior needed to be torn out ASAP.

We definitely were fortunate with how easily the velvet was removed – it’s not always this easy with flatware boxes.

Recently, we were each fortunate to be on separate mini beach getaways. It was nice to finally have a moment to relax, recharge our energy and our creativity. The idea for a travel box was born from wanting to collect special memories from all of our travels. Here’s how we did it:

Supplies:

Three sheets of scrapbook paper were cut and used to line the inside of the box. We used the red velvet as our pattern guide.

Three inch vinyl letters were used for our quote “Travel is My Therapy”.

This chalky paint color is so soft and pretty.

We did a test spot because we were afraid of bleed through from the red finish. After 24 hours we were certain that we were okay to go ahead and paint two light coats of paint.

This cute arrow handle was leftover from our project when we made a casserole carrier. We added it to the side for added interest and cuteness 🙂

We will need to sift through our stash but we will fill this box with postcards, mementos and travel photos.
