I know I’ve said it before, but this year I really want to get my house, and really my life, organized. I thought what better way than to start with my refrigerator. I hope I’m not alone when I say that my refrigerator is a mess. All too often I’ll come home from the grocery store and instead of really going through everything I tend to just shove things to the back. Out of sight, out of mind is definitely the best phrase to use when it comes to my fridge. But I thought, enough is enough!
Please don’t judge me when you see what it looked like…this is definitely a no-judge zone, right?
I mean it’s just horrible! There is no rhyme or reason to where things are placed and probably more than half of the items need to just be thrown away.
In order to get organized I decided to remove everything from the refrigerator. The items either went into the trash or onto the counter to eventually go back in. During this process I realized how wasteful we really are! Once I got all of the contents removed I cleaned all of the shelves and bins.
I then started putting items back where I thought they best belonged. The right door is where I put what I like to call “breakfast items” meaning my milk, half and half, and jelly.
The left side is where all of our condiments are now housed, instead of them all being in random spots like they used to be.
It is amazing how much space we now have! This whole process took only 45 minutes and it was well worth it. It’s such a great feeling to be able to open up the refrigerator and see everything I have. Now I feel like I don’t have enough food!
All of the fruits and vegetables went into their own bins, as well as the deli meat and cheese. I then grouped the other items together, such as the yogurt and cottage cheese.
With this hurdle done it is now time for me to move onto my closets…a scary thought 🙂
