I was recently in the cute town of Eatonton, Georgia near Lake Oconee, doing some antique shopping with my mom.  We stumbled across an antique/auction store and we knew we were bound to find some treasures and boy did I!  I found this shelf for only $3…it was a deal I couldn’t pass up.

At first I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, but then it hit me!  I have no paper towel holder for my kitchen and this would make a cute addition.

First things first, I needed to paint my find.  I honestly didn’t mind the color, but it just didn’t fit in my decor and it had some stains on it.  I started by lightly sanding it to get any imperfections out with the help of a little friend.

Then I primed it using our favorite Zinsser Primer.

I then decided to paint it a creamy white, as I thought it would go well in the kitchen.  I also thought that I could use it in other rooms in the future, like the bathroom (would make a cute medicine cabinet and towel holder).

I also decided to age it a little using Watco Danish Oil.

And voila, I have a new cute paper towel holder!  We used a piece of wood and painted it with chalkboard paint, as I wasn’t really feeling the wire.

I also was able to store some of my dishes on the shelves, which is great!  It would also be a great place for spices!

Overall my investment was only $3, since I already had all of the other materials.  It’s amazing what you can do with a little paint and time!
