Summer Front Porch Tour and Garden Hop

There is something about home tours that energizes and excites me. It’s a chance to start with a clean slate, a new season, and a fresh look. Even though this is an outdoor tour I have changed things up quite a bit since last years tour. Having lived here at the lake full time for an entire year now, I realized that the old patio set-up just wasn’t working for our lifestyle. We needed more space to entertain on our little patio so I sold the vintage wrought iron set to a neighbor. Thank to our friend Tara of Lehman Lane for inviting us. Welcome to my new summer front porch tour…

Add pops of color…

Luckily I found the perfect sized rug to fit the patio. I have never owned an indoor/outdoor rug before and I was a bit hesitant to purchase this one. Our patio is not covered and I worried that the elements would destroy it within a week. Happily that has not happened and the rug has been out here for about two months now. And we have had lots of rain…I mean tons of rain! Even as I was taking these photos the wind kicked up, blew pine straw and leaves everywhere and within fifteen minutes a flash-flood warning was issued.

The patio seems so much larger now with this new entertaining space. Do you remember the wire spool table that I made? It is the perfect centerpiece for serving and entertaining guests. Honey Bee and I love to have morning coffee and evening cocktails here as well.

The colorful floral pillow came as a pair and was on the clearance aisle from HomeGoods. That adorable tasseled lime green throw? It’s actually a beach towel from WalMart! I know 🙂

I made the nautical serving tray last year. It gets a lot of use between the kitchen and the porch.

Now, remember I live out in the country and my home decor shopping options are limited unless I go to town. Imagine my delight when I found these super cute appetizer plates at the hardware store!

And you know I can’t resist cute napkins.

The summer inspired succulents I made a couple of years ago still look great.

Cuttings from my hydrangea bushes fill the house and are a perfect addition to the vintage mason jar.

Have you ever tasted this Italian bubbly lemonade? Yum!

Garden Tour…

There should probably be a giant disclaimer inserted here for a couple of reasons. We live in a townhouse and don’t really have a yard. All of our flowers are in containers and pots.

Petunias are supposed to be a great beat-the-heat plant. Love this shade of pink.

This variety of begonia is new to me.

The floral petals are longer and close up in the evening and open during the daytime.

Sadly, my hydrangea bushes are not producing as well this year as they did last year. In fact, one bush isn’t flowering at all. If anyone has any tips I am open to suggestions. I am so grateful for the flowers that do bloom because they are healthy and robust.

I planted a different variety of plants in this gorgeous turquoise pot.

This colorful display greets our friends at the front door. I’m happy to report that the rolling wire spool table is holding up very well!

Here is one of our daily visitors. I just love deer, even though they have eaten some of my beautiful flowers and herbs.

When I sit at my desk I lose count of how many humming birds come to the feeders. They are so graceful.

  1. I love all of your mix of various pots and containers – Container gardening is so versatile and makes such a difference in a small space! You have a great mix of colors and textures. And your patio – I want to come over to visit! My hydrangeas aren’t doing so well this year either – we’ve yet to see a bloom. If you receive any useful tips let me know!

  2. What a gorgeous tour, ladies! I love how you styled your front porch. So inviting and cozy! That bubbly lemonade sounds so refreshing and delicious! I love those cute napkins! Happy summer, ladies!!

  3. Your front porch looks so welcoming and cozy Vicki! Love the new plates you found at the hardware store. What a wonderful spot to sit and watch the day go by. Hope you are having a great summer and thanks so much for joining in on the hop.

  4. This is such a cozy outdoor space, I want to come over for the patio party! (Love those napkins!) Aren’t outdoor rugs so great?! Glad you found one you love – and those appetizer plates are so cute, too!

  5. This is so cute and summery! I love all of the summery colors and elements! I would totally come over! I also would love to say that your flowers are beautiful (especially the hydrangeas!! We don’t get those here were I live, in Texas)

  6. I am loving your outdoor space! I am going to have to look for that variety of begonia too, that’s pretty! I had about 6 hydrangeas that weren’t producing for to years. I moved all of them last fall to a more sunny location and so far I am seeing buds on 5 shrubs out of the six, so maybe they need a touch more sunlight? Mine (last year) were only getting 2 to 3 hours, now they are getting 5.

  7. Vicki, you are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area full time! The new layout is perfect, and all the decorative elements are are beautiful! It would be a wonderful place to sit back and relax in! Enjoy

  8. This space is just lovely – so many beautiful flowers and I love the pops of color with the pillows and green blanket!!
    Best,
    Kelly
