It is so hard for me to fathom that this is already Memorial Day weekend. It seems like just last week we were talking about bunnies, spring and easter eggs. Time is marching on at a pace quicker than I would like, probably because I can’t seem to keep up 🙂

Plus the fact I about choked on my gum this week. I ran into the craft store for the first time in six months! I know, it’s a personal record that I haven’t been there in so very long. Anyway, if you follow 2 Bees on Instagram I did a short Insta Story about this. The craft store was in the process of putting out all of there FALL decor!!! Really??!! Why, oh why are we rushing through the seasons?

Memorial Day

It made me truly sit down and think about what Memorial Day was really all about. Don’t get me wrong…I will be glad for the extra day of rest, the cookouts, yummy foods, special bevs, boating and visiting with friends.

But, Memorial Day is the day we Americans have set aside to remember the people who died while serving our country.

Special Trip

A couple of years ago Honey Bee and I were fortunate enough to visit Hawaii. When we were in Oahu we visited Pearl Harbor – the site of the infamous December 7, 1941 attack. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m a tad ashamed to say I’m not much of a history buff unless it’s about vintage china, furnishings or homes.

We chose the USS Arizona Memorial Tour. First, we watched an emotional introductory documentary. Next, we were ferried out to the memorial site which is built over the ship.

I was immediately struck by how quiet, peaceful and respectful this site is. Even though there were over 50 people visiting the memorial, you could hear a pin drop. When I learned that oil is still leaking from the ship below, I shed a little tear. Knowing that after all of these years, and all of the sacrifices made by soldiers for our freedom this ship is still alive below the water.

Remember

So please take a moment today, this weekend and remember a soldier that made the ultimate sacrifice. Maybe it was a family member, friend, neighbor or a total stranger that you read about in the news. That is what this holiday is all about.
