DIY Beach Bag – Graphics and Beads
Are you dreaming of ocean breezes, salt air, sun-kissed cheeks and umbrella drinks? Even though Jenn and I have each been fortunate to have mini beach getaways, we are always looking forward to the next time. A couple of weeks ago Honey Bee had a business engagement in South Florida and he invited me to go along. There was a promise of two glorious days to lounge on the beach and there was no way that I was going to turn that down! My suitcase was packed quicker than you can say “mojito” and I was ready to go. Except I soon discovered that I forgot to pack a beach bag!
When I returned home I decided that I needed more than one beach bag. My current bag was pulling double duty as a pool bag and was left in the laundry room. Anyway, I couldn’t find a cute inexpensive bag that I liked in the stores so…I decided to create one for myself.
I wanted to make something with a bit of vintage flair. This canvas bag is from the craft store and after using a coupon was only $4.80.
- Canvas tote bag or backpack.
- Lesley Riley’s Transfer Artist Paper
- Sea glass beads
- Compass charm
- Bakers twine
- Sewing needle
Rummaging through my craft stash I found these beads that look just like sea glass. The compass charm looks a bit vintage and nautical too.
I used baker’s twine to thread the beads and compass to attach them to the beach bag.
Using different fonts and graphics, I typed out words that conjure up the beach vibe using coastal colors. Beach bound, toes in the sand, special bev, summer fun, vitamin sea, seashells and relax are my personal beach favorites. You can customize the graphics to your own beach preferences. The large “summer fun” graphic was created specifically for the pocket.
Look at how super cute this turned out.
This definitely feels retro and nostalgic – like the bag I took to the beach every week when I was a teenager in Florida.
It’s also large enough to hold two towels, magazines, lotion etc.
Not to be a braggart but I got several compliments at the pool too Remember, you can use a canvas tote bag or a backpack.
My new beach bag will get a lot of use this summer on the boat, at the pool and hopefully at the beach!
