8 Tips for Making Beautiful Vignettes

One of the easiest ways to add designer style to your home is by adding vignettes. A vignette is arranging objects into groupings on tabletops, dressers or shelves. These pretty groupings are the perfect way to showcase your style and creativity. Here are 8 tips for making beautiful vignettes in your home.

Display objects in odd numbers

Use several objects of similar shape, size and color together in odd numbers for maximum impact. Groupings of three or five work particularly well and are stronger visually than a group of two or four. A vignette makes a room look more polished and pulled together.

Use Different Textures

Textured items add interest to your display. We love using  shiny, flat and colorful items in our vignettes.

Be sure to use items that you already have in the house. There might be some long-forgotten treasures that can gain new life in an updated vignette.

Incorporate Plants and Greenery

This grouping has a live lavender plant, dried lavender, a wooden scoop, raffia and a glass jar. It sets the tone of a vintage apothecary shop. Using fresh flowers and greenery adds energy and interest into your home.

We love to display them any chance that we can. They become great conversation pieces and we get to enjoy our collections every single day.

Add Items With Varying Heights

You don’t want your collected vignette to all be of the same height. You want your eye to look up and down rather than straight across. Does that make sense? Stacking books is the perfect and easiest way to add height to a vignette. You can also use magazines, wooden boxes, candlesticks, photo frames or vases.

Trays

We love using trays to group our vignette decor. Sometimes it can get overwhelming to think about putting together a vignette. By grouping your collection onto a tray your design is much easier to manage.

Color is Your Friend

Needless to say we each change around our vignettes a lot in our houses. Think about doing this with the change of each season. Spring will be here before we know it. Start pulling out some of your favorite items now.  This list could include:

  • Aqua mason jars
  • Books – vintage, paperback
  • Metallics…copper, bronze or gold
  • Personal collections: inkwells, cameras, skeleton keys, wine corks, spools, black and white photos
  • Colored Glass: cobalt blue, turquoise, amber, green
  • Photo frames
  • Wooden Boxes
  • Trays: straw, wooden, leather, colored

These are all such great ideas! Color is your friend, that’s my favorite line :) Love your vintage trophy, the amber bottles and of courses the lavender – it’s all gorgeous. Hugs, CoCo

Great ideas! I always “shop the house”! When things get boring, I just put everything in a pile and rearrange it. It’s seems to make everything feel new.

Also, adding color inexpensively with flowers is something I do all the time. Makes me happy!
