Now that the house is completely decorated for Christmas, my thoughts have turned to entertaining. I love casual dinner parties, impromptu cocktail get-togethers and time spent with family and friends. Life at the lake has definitely made an impression on my holiday and Christmas decorating. Our townhouse faces the woods and I decided to bring that inspiration into the house with a rustic Christmas tablescape.

This is our 2nd year to join this year’s Home for the Holidays blog tour sponsored by Sondra Lyn at Home! This is the 3rd year for her HFTH tour, and we promise to bring some of the most awesome decor, craft and recipe ideas you’ll find anywhere. You can see our post from last year HERE.  So stay tuned – it’s 30 blogs with a different topic!  Sit back and enjoy!home-for-the-holidays-2016-graphic-sondralyn-at-home

I wanted the table to have a rustic and woodsy feel. The table runner is actually weathered wood bark wrapping paper. It was leftover from our Christmas gift wrap last year and made a perfect base for the table decor.

Plates were layered on top of twig placemats.

Each salad plate has a different message of the season.

Cypress greenery, moss balls and pinecones were layered in the center of the table. Don’t forget…if you gather pinecones from outdoors they need to be treated. Just bake them in a preheated 250 degree oven for 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and let the pine cones cool. Trust me, you don’t want to skip this step 🙂

The bark candleholders were on clearance at TJMaxx.

The fresh greenery is so bright and cheery! Sprigs of rosemary were added to each place setting. The fragrance is amazing and lends to the rustic woodsy theme.

I love the twinkling candlelight and glimmer of the Christmas tree lights.

I wish your screen was scratch and sniff. All of the evergreens smell amazing!

I love a casual tablescape. It is still pretty but it’s not too formal or stuffy. I want my guests to feel comfortable – take their time with the meal and linger afterwards.
