How to Make Felt Flowers

Hopefully you had a wonderful weekend and Monday was kind to you. My Monday was filled with rabbit holes. Do you know what I mean? I promise that I’m going to share with y’all how to make felt flowers in just a sec. But first, I need to share something with you.

Lately I have been trying to reign in my schedule and be accountable for my time. This has been hard for me. Really hard. Working from home is a definite bonus – but I need to be more disciplined. I’ve learned that I like to fly by the seat of my pants. Do projects and blog posts last minute…and I have been very comfortable and successful doing it this way for a very long time. Every day I typically go down one rabbit hole after another. I’ve learned I waste a lot of time – especially on social media. I convince myself that I will  just look for one thing, for one minute. Next thing I know my stomach’s grumbling because I missed breakfast and it is now lunchtime. So, in an effort to do better I have now created a real schedule for myself and my time. I will let you know how it goes. In the meantime…

These felt flowers are super simple and fun to create. For the purposes of  this tutorial I made all of the flowers the same size. You can definitely make larger flowers with larger circles. You can use something like a salad plate or a cereal bowl.

How to Make Felt Flowers

  • Use a CD or DVD as a pattern.
  • Trace the CD and cut out circles of felt.
  • Cut the felt in a circular pattern.
  • Starting from the outer pointed tip, start rolling the felt.

  • Keep rolling the felt all the way to the end.
  • Lay the rounded end on the bottom of the roll.
  • Use tape to hold the end into place. **See below**
  • Fluff out your rosette. Stand back and admire your work :)

**When you are ready to add your flowers to your project, use hot glue. I add several small beads of glue on the bottom of the flower to hold it into place.**

This is the type of project that I like to do while watching television. I made 24 felt flowers in under an hour while watching the USA beach volleyball team. Remember to put down your scissors before you stand up to cheer.

In an effort to get ahead, these felt flowers will be used in many ways in my Fall decor.

I am so excited and can’t wait to share them with you, so stay tuned!

Felt fabric comes in many thicknesses. I used sheets of felt from the craft store. Even though all of these sheets were the same size, the gray felt was much thicker which produced a larger flower. I love this color palette for the Fall season. I might be adding a bit of green and/or navy to the mix too.

As always, I hope that you are inspired to create something for yourself or your home. I’m in the midst of working on some artwork for my kitchen. Wish me luck!

Until tomorrow…
