Hey y’all…our weather has been so gloriously beautiful that I have been trying to do as many outdoor projects as I possibly can. I try to keep a stash of easy DIY art projects for days just like this.
I was inspired to create a little something green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Did you see our Decorating With Green post yesterday?
I found this frame at the thrift store for $1.00. It had a funky silver foil finish with a slight tinge of pink on one side. Definitely not my style but it was the right price.
When I bought the frame, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. But I knew it would need a makeover before anything else.
Last week I used a free can of spray chalk paint to transform some sweet bunnies. I liked it so well for that small project that I knew it would be perfect to makeover my frame. Hobby Lobby carries an entire line of this paint in a multitude of colors. With a 40% off coupon the can set me back $4.80. The color is “New Leaf” and it resembles Kelly Green.
I gave the frame two coats of paint and it dried very quickly.
I feel that the paint color really makes the details pop.
Here’s where I really got to have some fun. I wanted to play around with my watercolor paint set to make something easy and cute. Using watercolor paper and my home computer, I printed out this quote “Kiss Me, I Wish I were Irish”. Obviously, I’m not Irish – but growing up I always wanted to be
I did a rough drawing of a shamrock to add the watercolors to.
I am not an artist, but I really love playing with this paint medium. I thought this turned out pretty cute.
And it looks great in the painted frame displayed in the living room.
So in just a few minutes time, for less than $6.00 I was able to create an original art piece for St. Patrick’s Day. I hope you’re inspired to do a quick DIY project today!
