Chalk Painted Bunnies

Hey y’all…what have you been up to? I’m still in full-on cleaning and purging mode. At this point I feel like there is no end in sight to all of the junk, trash and clutter. My goodness, how did I let my house get into this shape? My donate pile is fairly large at this point too. When I feel like avoiding this mess, I create a bit of Spring for the house. Is it bad to say that I took something back from the donate pile? I’ve had these ceramic bunnies for many, many years. They are adorable but definitely too cutsie for my personal taste.

I decided that the bunnies would be the perfect candidates for a Springtime makeover. With just a bit of chalk paint I knew the bunnies would look great and more to my personal decor taste.

This was also the perfect opportunity to try this spray chalk paint. I received this can in a goody bag and knew the white finish would be perfect for the look I wanted to achieve.

The paint is definitely not as thick as the chalk paint that I typically use…

…but after two coats I achieved great coverage. At this stage they look almost bisque-like.

I lightly sanded each bunny with 120 grit sandpaper.

I then sealed each piece with dark wax, rubbed and buffed very well. I think they look vintage and antique now.

I created this fresh vignette inside a wooden tray. By the way, this handmade tray is a thrift store project that we shared with you before. The tray was purchased for less than $1.00 ! If you missed that post you can read all about it right HERE.

I added sheet moss and speckled eggs to the bottom of the tray.

I know I am biased, but I just think they are the sweetest looking bunnies now :)

I’m so glad I followed my own advice and up-cycled these for my Spring decor.

Every bunny deserves a makeover!

So glad the bunnies will be sticking around! Is there anything that doesn’t look better with a fresh coat of paint?
